Having served in pastoral ministry for over 25 years, I think that maybe one of the greatest and simplest things that you can do as a Christian is walk into church this weekend looking for people you do not know.
Sometimes, it is an older gentleman standing off to the side, drinking a cup of coffee. Sometimes, it is a family seated by themselves as you walk into the worship service. Maybe it’s a single mom or young person walking into the worship service by herself after you have already found a seat.
There are many things that we can do to impact the lives of others, but I cannot tell you how many times over the years this has been the one thing that has most encouraged someone who is new to God and church and got them started in a positive way on their spiritual journey. When they came to church, someone welcomed them.
So, this Easter weekend, as you are going to worship…
If you are not sure what to do to make a difference in someone else’s life, just look for people whom you have never met before and introduce yourself.
>If you find out that it is someone who has been at your church for a while, don’t be embarrassed. Praise the Lord that so many people come to this church, and tell them, “Well, it’s about time we met, isn’t it?” You might have just made a new friend for life.
>If it is someone who has never attended your church or maybe any church, you might be the one that God uses to say to them, “No, it was not a mistake to come to church today. You are welcome here. Relax. Make yourself at home. I have something I want to do in your life.”
It’s such an easy thing to do, but it can make all the difference in the world for someone who is coming back to God!
