War Room: 1 – An Honest Evaluation

Sermon Series: WAR ROOM

As we start the new year and look to Easter, we are entering into a time of renewal and seeking God, a season of prayer.  Both the weekend messages and our weekly Growth Groups will be focused on this emphasis.  Would you being praying now that God will use this emphasis to help you and our church grow as a powerhouse of prayer?

“An Honest Evaluation”

#1. Sometimes, we need an honest evaluation

Ps. 139:23-24
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me and know my anxious thoughts;
24 And see if there be any hurtful way in me,
And lead me in the everlasting way.

Jer. 6:16
16 Thus says the Lord,
“Stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths,
Where the good way is, and walk in it;
And you will find rest for your souls.
But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’

Is God calling you to a rest stop moment right now?

 Important areas to check:

  • Check the relationship (Matt. 7:22-23; II Cor. 13:5a)
    Do you know for sure that you are saved and that you will go to heaven when you die?
  • Check the fellowship (I John 1:9)
    Do you need to pray – not for salvation – but for cleansing & restoration?
  • Check your life direction (Rom. 14:12)
    The question is: God, am I doing what you want with my life?

#2. We especially need to evaluate our prayer life

  • Prayer is hard work
  • Prayer is not that hard

Col. 4:2

Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving;

The progression of most people’s prayer life:

  • I don’t talk to God at all
  • I only talk to God in emergencies
  • I talk to God every once in a while
  • I talk to God all throughout the day
  • I devote special time to spend with God every day

If I want what few people have,
I’ve got to do what few people do.

#3. We need to realize what is at stake

I Pet. 5:8

Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

Eph. 6:12

12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Is this a description of your life:
If something does not happen, we are not going to make it

If so, you are past the time to start fighting the real enemy

Next steps:

  • Embrace the challenge
  • Begin a season of seeking today
  • Take a step of growth
